Title: Development and Application of Optical In-situ Sensor and Sensor Network for Ocean Observation and Monitoring

Abstract

First of all, this report introduces the achievements of Yanshan University in the preparation of marine water quality monitoring sensors for more than a decade, which mainly include the chlorophyll sensor, the temperature sensor, the heavy metal ions sensor, the oil stain sensor based on the long period grating and the optical fiber sensor for the temperature, salinity and depth of the ocean. We focus on the "Water COD Remote sensor for water COD measurement based on ‘BeiDou’ navigation and communication", briefly introduces the water quality monitoring network based on various sensors developed and applicated by our research group in the past ten years, and demonstrate the development trend of the marine water quality sensors in the future.

 

Speaker Biography 

Prof. Weihong Bi obtained her Ph.D in instrument science and technology from Harbin Institute of Technology in 2003, and is a doctoral supervisor now. In 2000, she became a professor in School of Information Science and Engineering of Yanshan University. Now she is Director of Key Lab of Special Fiber and Fiber Sensor in Hebei Province. She was a senior visiting professor in Virginia Tech, US in 2009. Her major research interests are fiber optic sensors and photoelectric detection. The projects in photonic crystal fiber fusion splicer, fiber optic current/voltage sensor, and sensing optical cable have been finished. More than 200 technical research papers have been published, and two book collaborated with others was published. Besides that, she obtained more than eleven patents. Due to the research work in fiber optic sensors and optoelectronic signal processing, she received second Awards for Scientific and Technological Advances from National Mechanical Industry Ministry and Hebei Province, third Awards for Technological Invention from Hebei Province, respectively.
